From Des Moines, Iowa, Cloris Leachman came to Northwestern to study in the School of Education. While here she performed in the University’s WAA-MU show (see photograph). Notable among the over thirty-five motion pictures in which she has had roles is "The Last Picture Show," for which she won an Academy Award for best supporting actress. Others include "Daisy Miller," "Young Frankenstein," "Texasville," and "The Beverly Hillbillies." In addition to performing in over thirty-five movies for television between 1969 and 1995, she had long-term roles in such series as "The Mary Tyler Show," "Phyllis," and "The Facts of Life." She has received six Emmys for her television work.
