Lewis Elmer Sims was a member of the class of 1876.  His letters, written while in Evanston from 1874-1877, provide insight into the living conditions, educational system, and pastimes of the day.  Later writings serve to provide a picture in summary.

Myrtle Viola Whitney attended Northwestern from 1890-1891.  In letters to her family she writes of the demands placed on her time and offers perspective on what were considered pressing issues to a young woman of her time.  Of particular interest is the diary of expenses she kept during the year, recording each of her purchases.
