Scrapbook Highlights

Student scrapbooks offer a glimpse into what students of the past deemed memorable.  In additional to snapshots, the books often contained program booklets from events, campus mementos, important advertisements, and dance cards.


Edith W. Cooke (1888-1975) Scrapbook, 1907-1913
Cook received a B.A. from Northwestern's College of Liberal Arts in 1911 and went on to work for a number of Chicago publishers until she married.  The scrapbook's material is primarily from 1910-1911 and offers a look into the social life of young women on campus during that time.  Among the collected materials are dance cards, party favors, invitations, calling cards, snapshots, and newspaper clippings.  Cooke attended several Delta Delta Delta national conventions and the book contains programs and photographs from these events as well. Edith A. Sternfeld (1898-1990) Scrapbook, 1917-1921
This scrapbook documents the academic and social life of artist and art educator Edith Sternfeld while she was an undergraduate at Northwestern. (More info)


Edna M. Sale (1882-1978) Scrapbook, 1889-1970
Sale graduated from the Northwestern University School of Oratory in 1907. Her scrapbook includes course notes, photos, dance cards, and correspondence. (More info)


Eva Reynolds (1885-?) Scrapbook, 1905-1908
Reynolds was a member of the Women's Union and attended Young Women's Christian Association meetings, among other activities on campus. (More info)



Iva Grace Howard Glazebrook (1899-1988) Scrapbook, 1917-1920
The book documents Howard's social life at Northwestern.  Images in the scrapbook include postcards, candid photographs, and figures cut out from prints, focusing mostly on the social environment and campus scenery.  The book contains also several thematic pages, including music school buildings, Willard Hall, and an outdoor pageant recreating an English tournament of the Middle Ages. James Maurice Howell (1913-1994) Scrapbook, 1931-1941
While at Northwestern, Howell was a drum carrier in the marching band and a member of the glee club. He was an active member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. (More info)



Owen L. Coon (1894-1948) Scrapbook, 1907-1962
A law student at Northwestern, Coon was active in innumerable campus organizations and activities, and later, a generous philanthropist. (More info)


Ralph C. J. Wallace Scrapbook, 1902-1920
Wallace was a member of the Beta Pi chapter of the fraternity Delta Tau Delta (625 Church Street) in 1905; Associate Editor of The Daily Northwestern; and Business Manager of the Junior Play. (More info) | Last updated 9/15/2008
