Written with the assistance of literary friends Benjamin Hoadly and James Ralph, the Analysis was published in 1753. The cover shows the "Line of Beauty" (inspired by writings of Lomazzo) and the platform of "Variety," the two primary elements that constitute beauty and elegance for Hogarth.
