Satirized as a court dwarf, Hogarth appears painting the portrait of John Wilkes while Lord Bute leans over the back of his chair approving of the work. Hogarth's enemies claimed that he had sold out to George III and Bute in order to receive the position of Serjeant-Painter to the King.
